The department of Theater was founded in 2002. The undergraduate Acting program is an intensive eight semesters (4 years) continuous course of study that is dedicated to developing and strengthening your talents through rigorous training and faculty mentoring. Students may enroll based on YKS scores and audition results. The intensive four years program will prepare you to meet the challenges of a professional career with classes in acting technique, improvisation, movement, voice and speech, ensemble building as well as theoretical courses in theater history. In the classes, students focus on a variety of texts from the classical Ancient Greece, to Shakespeare and modern plays of Anton Chekov, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller as well as more contemporary literature from the world theatre. After the mandatory courses in the first two years, various lectures based on different perspectives provide students the opportunity to make their own synthesis. In the last four mid-terms, the students have the possibility to practice, examine and consolidate their knowledge and skills by performing in at least two plays and creating their own productions. In the final semester, students learn to self-produce to present at theatres in and out of Çanakkale.
